At Uptodown, our users’ safety is a top priority, and that's why we collaborate with VirusTotal, a service that scans each of the files we offer with more than 70 antivirus. You can check the security report for any app from its download page by tapping on the little icon that looks like a blue shield. If an app has too many alerts or if even one of them is actually harmful to the user, it’s not published on Uptodown.
Detailed information on each file available on Uptodown
Additionally, we offer a Technical Information section for each app where you can check the following data to verify its trustworthiness:
- Package Name
- App signature (SHA256)
- File size
- Supported architecture
- Developer associated with the app
- Type of packaging (APK, XAPK, etc.)
- List of rights requested by the app
In addition to this automatic process, our team of editors manually reviews the apps we publish, making sure they meet our minimum quality requirements. More importantly, all our downloads are managed and hosted by us through our own servers unless the developer explicitly requests that the process be done from his official URL through a redirect.

Issues review through VirusTotal
Although both our team of editors and our automated tools ensure the security of the files offered, some apps published on Uptodown may show issues in the report offered by VirusTotal —note this does not necessarily mean there is actual malware. Some antivirus display alerts when the scanned apps perform any activity that may compromise the operating system. For instance, virtualization software, emulators, automation tools or apps that require root rights to run may display false positives that are merely informative in nature and not harmful to the user. This also includes apps that may contain some type of PUP (potentially unwanted programs) in the form of adware, which need not be harmful either.

Still, if you detect any undesired behavior in any app, please contact our support team so they can review the case and, if needed, remove the affected files.
